I had jail-broken my Ipad maybe about a year ago and I bought an HTC Sensation XL recently which I tried and was able to root myself.
My friend told me it costed over 50rmb = $7-8 to root your android phone at a computer center
My other friend told me costed over 100rmb = $17-19 to jailbreak your apple device at a computer center
Why not do it yourself?
It’s sometimes really hard to figure out what you can do with your Apple Iphone/Ipad/Itouch etc and your Android devices. There are quite a large number of terminologies that people might not be very familiar with and I'll try to list some below.
Android Devices -
Root – Main objective for people wanting to install custom roms
Custom Rom – different systems that you can install
Factory Reset – erasing and clearing everything out of your device and resetting it

Main instructions
1.
First you need to unlock your bootloader.
You can download android apps on
search android apps or .apk
Iphone/Itouch/Ipad –
Untethered – meaning you can turn on and off the phone without having to do
special commands with the computer. Completely jailbroken Iphone.
Tethered – Restrictions with a jailbroken iphone in that once you turn it off, the iphone freezes until you do special commands on the computer to unfreeze it
Brick – When you screw up your device and it crashes all the time
Jailbreak – allow yourself to download third-party apps not from the apple store
